Choosing The Right Estate Planning Lawyer

It is important that you hire a lawyer that specializes in estate planning. They are the best people to help you plan your trusts, wills and other documents. If you don’t have a lawyer yet, it is best to come up with a list of prospective lawyers. Here is what you need to do before hiring a lawyer.

  • Ask for references – It is important that you talk to people who have previously rendered the services of an estate planning lawyer before. Ask them about their experience and let them comment on their lawyer’s skills and trustworthiness. Ask them what they think of the legal service they received.
  • Ask for a copy of a firm’s brochure and promotional materials – When you visit law firms, ask for copies of their brochures and crosscheck these materials against other sources and references you can find.
  • Ask to be provided with a copy of the lawyer’s retainer agreement and have it explained to you – It is important that this is clear to you right from the start. If you don’t pay much attention to this, you might end up paying a lot more to the lawyer than what you originally planned for.
