How To Avoid Disputes During Estate Planning

It is completely normal for disputes to brew during estate planning. However, there are things you can do to avoid these disputes from getting over the top.

  • Be willing to be straightforward – Make sure that you have the courage to inform everyone equally of what your intentions are. When you lay down immediately what is going to happen, this will reduce the amount of fighting during estate planning.
  • Tell them that you don’t want any fighting – Clearly tell them that you don’t want any fighting. But also, be fair. You should let them voice their opinion if they feel that they are being treated unfairly.
  • Be firm, clear and specific in your decision-making – Make sure that you communicate clearly what your decisions are. The clearer you are, the less room for people to misinterpret your decision.
  • Keep your will up-to-date – Any communications you’ve made verbally can be outdated as you make changes in your written will. It is necessary to clear up these miscommunications so that the final word on your estate can be referred to rather than a conversation from the past.
